Oriel Offers 2026: What to Do After You Get (or Don't Get) an Offer
Oriel offers come out in early November 2026. What each option means, what to do if you don't get an offer straight away, and how to use the months before you start.

"I've checked my Oriel inbox ten times today."
If that's you, you're not alone. Every November we hear from students worried about offers, and most of that worry comes from not knowing how the process works. This is what you need to know.
Key dates
| Stage | Date |
|---|---|
| Preferencing closes | 22 October 2026 |
| First offers released | Early November 2026 |
| Upgrade deadline | Late November 2026 |
| Employers told who they've recruited | Mid-December 2026 |
| Foundation year starts | July/August 2027 |
You have 48 hours to respond
When an offer comes in, you have 48 hours (excluding weekends and bank holidays) to respond. If you miss it, the offer expires and you're removed from the process.
Turn on Oriel email and SMS alerts, and check your junk folder.
Which option should you pick?
- Accept if it's your first choice, or you're happy to stay there.
- Accept with upgrades if you're happy with it but would still prefer a programme you ranked higher. Oriel moves you automatically if one frees up before the deadline. For most students, this is the safest choice.
- Hold is mainly for students who applied to more than one scheme, such as England and Wales plus Scotland.
- Decline removes you from Oriel completely. You won't get another offer.
Two mistakes we see every year:
- Declining to wait for something better. Accept with upgrades instead.
- Expecting to undo an upgrade. You can't. Once you're upgraded, your old offer is gone.
No offer yet?
Don't panic. Offers go out in rounds until the upgrade deadline, and each time someone declines or upgrades, a place moves down the list.
There are usually more places than applicants too. In 2025/26, only 68% of the 4,451 places were filled (Pharmaceutical Journal).
Keep checking Oriel every day. If something looks wrong, contact the Pharmacy National Recruitment Office through the support portal in the Applicant Handbook. Don't try to arrange a place directly with an employer. In England and Wales, Oriel is the only route.
Got an offer? Use the next eight months well
- Pass your MPharm. Your place depends on it.
- Reply quickly when your employer gets in touch after mid-December.
- Know what's coming. You'll have an e-portfolio, a Designated Supervisor, a Designated Prescribing Practitioner, and the GPhC registration assessment at the end.
- Start on calculations. They make up all of Part 1 of the exam, and weak foundations are much easier to fix now than alongside a full-time job.
You don't need to start proper revision yet. One short lesson a week puts you ahead of most trainees.
Quick answers
